Daphne's Birthday

I wrote this yesterday for Daphne's 1st Birthday.

When I went to New York, Daphne was the hit of the party. People everywhere were telling me how wonderful she was. The response was huge, and no matter where we were, she was able to strike up a conversation just by looking.

I realized that it was because I was one of the parents that did not keep her bundled up in hundreds of layers of clothes tucked away in a stroller. She was always on my back attached to me doing everything I did and seeing everything I saw. People like babies, and because she was out there with me, she was able to interact with them.

Daphne is 1 year old today. I can hardly believe it. People keep telling me that I should enjoy it because it will go by fast. I feel like I have been enjoying. Though it does feel a little fast, it definitely feels suitable, and I feel like I have gotten the opportunity to enjoy every second of her.

For her birthday, I made mac ‘n cheese, and ate it with Jared and her. I then made a pineapple upside down cake, and I ate it with her. She liked it so-so, but I loved it. She has never really eaten sugar before, so it was a new experience for her.

We went to the pool for a birthday swim. She did not like swimming much, and that is why I stopped, but when I went today, she loved it. I was able o pay her on her back and drag her through the water for quite some time while she sat with a smile on her face. It was wonderful. Jared went with us, and he videoed it.

I will add the video from swimming to some other video I took yesterday, and I will make a “birthday special” DVD for her and her family.

It has been a great year for us.
