I've been sewing diapers for quite a while now. I would consider that I have quite a bit of experience by now, but it is turning out that I keep making mistakes. Often, I have to fix the mistakes that I do make by taking out the sewing with a seam ripper or a pair of scissors. It can take quite some time.
The other day, I was having quite a bad day, so my solution to that problem was just to go and work on sewing diapers. It turns out that I really was NOT having a good day, and I ended up sewing the elastic to the WRONG side of the diapers, which meant that the elastic was on the inside of the diaper instead of on the outside of the diaper.
This was greatly distressing to me because that is a lot of stitches and it is almost impossible that I would have the patience to take it all out.
After I was done freaking out about it, I stepped back and actually looked at the diaper, and it turned out that what I had done was a brilliant thing.
I had actually created an original diaper that had qualities to it that I really ended up liking. With the elastic on the inside, you are dealing with keeping the poop in really well around the edges and at the top. Also, with the way that I made my inserts, they fit very well into the diaper with the elastic on the inside.
So, just this one time, my sewing mistake has led me to my very own brand of wool covers that are brilliant and work perfectly for me.
