I was making granola the other day in my wok, which is by the way, the best way to make granola. As I was pulling all the random ingredients out of the pantry for it, I saw that there was some flax in there. I poured a bunch of flax seeds in with the granola while I was toasting it in a little oil.
After a few minutes, I heard *Pop* *Pop* *Pop* *Pop* *Pop* *Pop* *Pop* *Pop*
I couldn't figure out what was going on until a flax seed flew out and landed on my arm. Apparently, when the conditions are right--high heat and a little bit of fat, flax pops like popcorn. It doesn't pop up as huge as popcorn, but if you look at the seed, you will see the hull has been popped off to reveal a nice little crunchy layer.
